Founded by Boston area artist Kara Dulin in 2015, the Needle and Knot Collective grew quickly from an artistic passion to a global business.

Built on the principles of supporting small business ventures, encouraging eco-friendly craftsmanship and spreading good vibes through art and creative expression, Needle and Knot goes beyond the dated concept of handmade and, in each handwoven piece, brings to life a lineage and story that remains unique to every space for years to come.

We create truly timeless pieces of art using hand selected and highly curated materials to ensure quality and beauty are delivered at the highest standards. Our founder's extensive international travel as well as her time spent living in both New York City and Paris, contribute to her love and appreciation for one-of-a-kind curated goods. Many of her designs are inspired by her Mediterranean and Middle Eastern travels as well as her early studies in Fashion Design and Merchandising at the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan.

We at Needle and Knot are passionate about women’s empowerment. We believe that we all deserve a chance, a spotlight, a boost to our collective aspirations and goals. We believe that we are “better together” and in this sense, when we can focus less on “making it” and more on “making what we love”, we are able to capture our authentic artistic ability from a place which intersects with our raw creative aspirations.

That’s why we have committed to featuring a series of women photographers who are in the process of building their creative business. Whether it be an existing side business, an opportunity to network or a place to provide a platform for students, we want to be able to help other women find their creative voice alongside our own.

Please join us in welcoming our first “Photographer in Residence”, Jenessa, of Jenessa MacKenzie Portraits.

In her own words..

For the past two years, I’ve been growing my business as a portrait photographer in the Greater Boston area. For me, portraiture is a practice that goes well beyond what we see on the outside and travels deeply into the beauty of a person’s soul. My ability to discover these attributes is something that I take pride in capturing. I have a passion for creating and offering my clients unique photography experiences and that is something that sets me apart in an otherwise saturated industry. With photography we create our legacy, we empower ourselves and others, and our existence comes to life in photographs.
